The kickoff mock

It feels like a real interview — then you get a plan

Your included mock isn’t a lecture. A mentor pushes on trade-offs, then writes down what to fix. Your personalized practice plan opens on InterviewCrafted — problems you can actually work.

You’ve got a URL shortener. Walk me through the write path — and where you’d put idempotency before we draw boxes.
I’d start with POST /shorten, an idempotency key on create, then rate-limit at the edge…
Good. After the mock you’ll get written feedback: what landed, what was thin, and what to practice next on InterviewCrafted.
Illustrative — your mentor runs a real mock; this shows the tone, not a scripted chatbot.

FAQ

Questions people ask before they apply

What’s in the plan, what you practice, and how Mentorship differs from self-serve Pro.

PracticeWhat will I actually practice in Mentorship?

You’ll practice system design the way it happens in a real interview — clarifying requirements, defining APIs, designing the architecture, making trade-offs, and defending your decisions. That skill is what most candidates under-train, and what interviewers actually score.

You’ll work through InterviewCrafted HLD practice and mentor-assigned challenges. Your first session is a realistic system design mock so you finally know where you stand — not guess. From there, your mentor tailors practice to your gaps and pushes you with targeted feedback, so every hour of prep moves the needle instead of spinning in random playlists.

System designIs this mainly high-level system design (HLD)?

Yes — and that focus is intentional. HLD interviews are where strong engineers get stuck: scale, reliability, data flow, and trade-offs under time pressure. Mentorship is built to make you good at that conversation, not vaguely “better at interviews.”

Your kickoff mock is an HLD-style interview. Your plan after that keeps you on InterviewCrafted HLD problems and challenges until those muscles get stronger. If you walk into your next loop still unsure how to structure a 45-minute design, this is the gap Mentorship exists to close.

Design thinkingWhere does design thinking fit in?

Most weak system design answers fail in the first ten minutes — unclear goals, fuzzy constraints, no failure modes. Design thinking is how you start the problem before you draw boxes, so your architecture has a real job to do.

If your mock shows you jump to diagrams too fast, your mentor adds InterviewCrafted design-thinking guides to your plan. You’re not buying a soft-skills course — you’re fixing the framing that makes interviewers trust the rest of your design.

LLDDo you cover low-level design (LLD) too?

System design (HLD) stays the main focus — that’s where Mentorship creates the most interview leverage. We don’t dilute the program into an LLD-only track.

But if class design, APIs, or object modeling is clearly holding you back, your mentor can add InterviewCrafted LLD practice to your plan. You only get LLD when it’s the honest blocker — so your time stays aimed at the skill that will show up in your next loop.

DSAWill my plan include DSA / coding problems?

Mentorship is not a DSA bootcamp. If you need endless LeetCode, this isn’t that product — and we won’t pretend it is.

What you get instead is focus: system design depth that most candidates skip. If a coding gap is clearly blocking your system design interviews, your mentor may point you to a short InterviewCrafted guide. Only when it’s required — so Mentorship stays the place you get placement, feedback, and a plan for the interview type that usually decides the offer conversation.

Pro vs MentorshipIs Mentorship the same as InterviewCrafted Pro?

No — and picking the wrong one costs you months. Pro is the self-serve gym: problems, canvas, and AI feedback when you already know what to practice.

Mentorship is for when you don’t. You get a human kickoff mock, written feedback, a personalized practice plan, targeted assignments, mentor support when you’re stuck, and doubt-clearance slots. Same InterviewCrafted practice surface — but a mentor decides what matters next, so you stop practicing everything and start closing the gaps that show up in real interviews.

MatchingDo I pick my mentor?

You apply once. We assign a mentor from real available seats and email you when you’re matched — so you can start with the kickoff mock and plan.

What you care about is outcomes: a serious kickoff mock, honest feedback, and a plan you can execute. Apply, get matched when a seat opens, then get to work.

MocksAre extra mock interviews included?

One kickoff mock is included — and it’s the most important session in the package. That mock places you: written feedback, a personalized plan, and a clear next step. Without it, you’d still be guessing what to practice.

Extra mocks after that are paid when you book. You’re not locked into unlimited interviews you may not need — you add another checkpoint when you’re ready to pressure-test progress. Honest packaging: the included mock starts the journey; more mocks are available when the timing is right for you.
